Electric range matters more than the headline figure, because the real number is what you will drive on a normal day. This article ranks all six EVs V3Cars tested in this round by a 50/50 mixed real-world range, which is the harmonic mean of the city and highway ranges.
Real-world EV range ranking
| Rank | EV | Battery (kWh) | Claimed (km) | City range (km) | Highway range (km) | Mixed range (km) | Mixed vs claim |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Hyundai Creta EV LR | 51 | 510 | 467 | 361 | 407 | -20% |
| 2 | Tata Harrier EV AWD | 75 | 622 | 466 | 337 | 391 | -37% |
| 3 | BMW iX1 EV | 66 | 531 | 396 | 380 | 388 | -27% |
| 4 | BMW i5 LWB EV | 81.6 | 669 | 337 | 391 | 362 | -46% |
| 5 | Tata Punch EV LR | 40 | 468 | 305 | 290 | 297 | -36% |
| 6 | Tata Nexon EV LR | 41 | 465 | 294 | 248 | 269 | -42% |
What the ranking shows
The Hyundai Creta EV LR ranks first on mixed real-world range at about 407 km, while the Tata Nexon EV LR ranks last at about 269 km. The spread reflects the different battery sizes and the different test results, and it is wider on the highway than in the city.
The highway ranges are where the spread is widest. The Nexon EV LR's highway figure is the lowest in the group, while the BMW i5 LWB and the Tata Harrier EV AWD show very different patterns between city and highway.
Efficiency per kWh
| EV | City km/kWh | Highway km/kWh | Mixed km/kWh |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hyundai Creta EV LR | 9.15 | 7.08 | 7.98 |
| Tata Punch EV LR | 7.63 | 7.25 | 7.44 |
| Tata Nexon EV LR | 7.17 | 6.06 | 6.57 |
| BMW iX1 EV | 6.00 | 5.76 | 5.88 |
| Tata Harrier EV AWD | 6.21 | 4.49 | 5.21 |
| BMW i5 LWB EV | 4.13 | 4.79 | 4.44 |
Who should pick which
- Long highway trips: rank the EVs by highway range first, because highway speed is where the largest drop occurs.
- City commuting: rank by city efficiency. The Creta EV leads on city km per kWh in this round.
- Lowest home-charging cost: see the running-cost comparison in this batch, because a high-efficiency EV can cost less per km than a smaller, cheaper one.
Data notes
- Each EV was tested once on the route and date shown. Ranges depend on temperature, traffic, load and starting charge.
- Claimed ranges are those V3Cars lists in its tables; they are not independently verified.
