The Renault Triber is a compact family MPV sold with a 1.0-litre petrol in both manual and AMT versions. Its test compares the two gearboxes on the same engine.

What the test showed
Triber 1.0 petrol MT was tested on 7 Jul 2026. It returned 9.95 km/l in the city, -46% against the claimed 18.40 km/l, and 17.47 km/l on the highway, -5% against the claim. Combining the two routes in an even 50/50 split gives a mixed figure of 12.68 km/l, which is -31% against the claim.
Triber 1.0 petrol 5-speed AMT was tested on 4 Jul 2026. It returned 10.92 km/l in the city, -40% against the claimed 18.30 km/l, and 16.92 km/l on the highway, -8% against the claim. Combining the two routes in an even 50/50 split gives a mixed figure of 13.27 km/l, which is -27% against the claim.
The AMT is slightly better in the city, and the manual is slightly better on the highway.
Range and running cost
- Triber 1.0 petrol MT: with a 40-litre tank, the estimated range per fill is about 456 km (90% of tank × mixed km/l, to leave a small reserve). At the test fuel price of Rs 105/L, the running cost works out to about Rs 8.28 per km on the mixed figure.
- Triber 1.0 petrol 5-speed AMT: with a 40-litre tank, the estimated range per fill is about 478 km (90% of tank × mixed km/l, to leave a small reserve). At the test fuel price of Rs 105/L, the running cost works out to about Rs 7.91 per km on the mixed figure.
Who should consider this
- Families who want a practical compact MPV
- Buyers who prefer an AMT for city traffic
- Highway drivers who may prefer the manual
How to read these figures
- The claimed figure is the one V3Cars lists in its test table. Our city, highway and mixed numbers are the tested results and are not adjusted.
- The mixed figure is the harmonic mean of the city and highway results, which is the correct way to average fuel economy across two distances.
- Running cost uses the fuel price from the V3Cars test, so compare the cost per km only within the same fuel type.
Data notes and limits
- Each variant was tested once on the route and date shown, on Delhi NCR roads. Traffic, load, tyre pressure, air-conditioning use and driving style all move real figures.
- V3Cars' own reports describe highway cruising near 100 km/h, but several recorded highway averages were lower. Treat the highway number as indicative rather than exact.
- Where a model has two tests, both are shown separately rather than averaged, so you can see how much the figures moved between runs.
Tips to get closer to real-world figures
- Keep tyre pressure at the recommended level, since under-inflated tyres can cost a noticeable share of economy.
- Use the air-conditioning sparingly in stop-start traffic, and use the eco mode where the car offers it.
- Accelerate gently and anticipate traffic, which saves more fuel in the city than almost any other habit.
