Pirelli and Balkrishna Industries Limited (BKT) announced a manufacturing agreement on 22 October 2026 covering premium passenger-car tyres in India. The first phase provides for BKT to produce up to 800,000 Pirelli-branded tyres by 2030, according to Pirelli’s dated company announcement. V3Cars subsequently published its release on the agreement on 28 October.

Offtake production comes first

Under the initial arrangement, BKT will manufacture the tyres at one of its newly constructed plants to Pirelli’s specified technological and quality standards. Pirelli describes the deal as a way to strengthen its position in India, where its presence has so far been commercial. For BKT, it supports expansion into passenger-car tyres.

The production figure is a forward target expressed as “up to” a stated quantity. It should not be interpreted as output already achieved, a confirmed retail allocation, or an independently assessed quality outcome.

The proposed joint venture is conditional

A second phase envisages a 50:50 joint venture and a dedicated plant producing higher-value passenger-car tyres under both brands for India and international markets. Pirelli explicitly makes that phase subject to conditions. The announcement therefore does not establish that the joint venture has already been incorporated or that its new factory is operating.

No consumer prices, fitment catalogue or retail availability date is provided. Motorists should wait for product-specific information rather than infer that the agreement immediately changes the tyres available for their car.
