Rüsselsheim, Germany, and Paris, France | 16 October 2026. Opel says the FIA has homologated its GSE 27FE Formula E car after a development programme covering more than 6,000 kilometres in 12 test days. The manufacturer's 16 October preparation update separates that completed step from the running still planned before its first season in the championship.
Completed work versus the next milestones
| Milestone | Status in Opel's 16 October update |
|---|---|
| Development running | More than 6,000km across 12 test days reported |
| FIA homologation | Completed, according to Opel |
| First race-car construction | Underway |
| Shakedown | Planned for early November |
| Official Jarama test, Spain | Scheduled for 16–20 November |
Opel says the work initially concentrated on reliability, then shifted towards performance, energy management and set-up in the car's two aerodynamic configurations. It is also rehearsing garage and pit-wall procedures.
Who will drive the GEN4 car?
Mitch Evans and Théo Pourchaire are Opel's race drivers. Sophia Flörsch supports the programme in testing and the simulator. The final black, silver and yellow race design was presented at the Paris Motor Show.
Why mileage is not a competitive ranking
The test-distance figure is a manufacturer-reported preparation measure, not a verified lap-time comparison against rival teams. Homologation likewise does not prove race-winning pace. Opel has not supplied a comparable, common-condition performance ranking in this update.
The Jarama dates and shakedown remain plans, not completed results. Readers new to the discipline can use our guide to Formula E and other major racing series for context.
