Hankook has retained the FIA's Three-Star Environmental Accreditation until July 2028, the federation announced on 16 October 2026. Three Stars is the highest tier in the FIA programme.
What supported the renewal?
The FIA says the decision followed a third-party audit. Hankook first received Three-Star status in 2024. A central element is its life-cycle assessment of Formula E tyres, covering raw materials, manufacturing and transport to help track and manage environmental impact.
The wider programme assesses areas including management commitment, energy use, logistics, waste and carbon accounting. The renewal concerns environmental management and the evidence supporting it.
What it means for tyre buyers
This accreditation should not be read as a comparative road-tyre braking result. Nor does the announcement provide a percentage reduction in emissions that can be applied to every Hankook product.
Our assessment is that environmental credentials and product suitability answer different buying questions. A driver choosing replacements still needs the correct size, load and speed ratings, and evidence relevant to the intended conditions. An organisation-level award cannot supply those missing comparisons.
What to look for next
Future quantified claims should identify the product, measurement boundary, baseline and period being compared. That makes it possible to distinguish a management-system improvement from a measured change in a particular tyre's footprint. Follow our industry news for further confirmed developments.
