Hector Tomahawk EV vs PHEV: Your Parking Space May Decide

MG offers the Hector Tomahawk as a battery-electric SUV and a plug-in hybrid. In equivalent seven-seat Exclusive and Essence trims, the EV was Rs. 3.70 lakh to Rs. 4.30 lakh cheaper at the August 2026 ex-showroom prices. The PHEV buys the ability to continue a long journey on petrol when charging is inconvenient. Before comparing screens or acceleration, ask where the car will charge most nights.

With dependable home or workplace charging, the EV is the straightforward choice on paper. It has the lower purchase price in comparable trims and a substantially longer electric-only range. The PHEV’s appeal grows for a household that regularly drives routes with uncertain charging and wants one car for both short electric trips and long-distance travel. Its claimed combined range exceeds 1,100km, but the fuel bill when the battery is depleted still matters. MG had not provided a directly comparable India-spec depleted-battery fuel figure in the V3Cars analysis.

Do not confuse the Battery-as-a-Service offer with a permanent discount. MG quoted separate per-kilometre battery charges for both versions, while a PHEV also uses petrol. Work out a month with your own kilometres, electricity tariff, expected petrol use and the contract’s minimum fees. The ordinary ex-showroom comparison and the BaaS comparison are different calculations; mixing the two produces a misleading winner.

There is also a five-seat EV configuration without an exact PHEV counterpart. If you only need two rows, that may save money and avoid carrying unused seating. If seven seats are essential, compare the same seating layouts and trim levels, then test the third row with passengers aboard.
